The first five months of patch operations has come and gone with the quickness. For the Win Inc got started in the second or third week of August making the month of December its 5th month of operations. Obviously there is part of me that wishes it had done better in its infant stage, but the other part of me is totally blown away by the response it has gotten. I would have never guessed it to have done as well as it has. Today, to make the New Year and the turn of a “new leaf” if you will, I reworked the store header to better suit the look and feel that I have grown to like recently. My eye has been drawn to more shades of gray lately (no, not the terrible pop culture porno- book). I have spent the last few months filling the store with patches that I would wear (quite a few of which I actually do wear). With that said, this patch venture has been a fun little hobby that has allowed me to express myself creatively. I like anti-fascist punk rock patches with gritty quotes. I like UFOs, outer space and bigfoot. I like dinosaurs and Jesus Christ. So, these patches are inspired from the things that inspire me. That is where I have been with it thus far.
But what about 2017? What does this new year hold in store for For the Win Inc.? Honestly, I have no idea. I can tell you though, what the short term looks like for this patch venture. I have three new embroidery designs coming down the pike soon. I hope to have them posted to the store by early February at the latest. One is of outer space, another is a triceratops, and the other is a… well, you will just have to wait to see them. I am pretty happy with how they turned out. With that said, in the first six months I will came come close to nearly 1,000 sales, nearly 200 reviews, and a total of 35 different patches in the store. That is pretty freaking awesome if you ask me. Beyond adding these three new designs to the store I have decided to take the first few months of 2017 a little slower than I have been. This means I won’t be rushing off to release new designs. Instead, I am going to sit tight and focus on promoting what designs I already have. Where things will lead beyond this are hard to say. I could do more patches. I could start doing enamel pins and buttons. Who knows? That’s been the exciting thing about this little venture hobby. Anything could happen.
It’s been a fun ride thus far.
4 new patches are now available in the store! Go check them out. These patches are inspired from the heart. Although I feel helpless in many ways when it comes to making big difference in things that matter to me, it doesn’t mean they don’t matter to me. Global warming is killing the bees. Corporations are part of the overall problem. Animals have rights too. We need to respect that. And instead of doing nothing, we could at lets start literally wearing our feelings on our sleeves. These patches are the way to do just that.
MantidSnip is at it again! Chris just sent me a few photos of some more of my patch designs in the screen print process. I am excited to announce that these new designs are on the cusp of getting added to the store. Chris told me today that the order should be getting shipped out in a day or two, which is cool. But honestly, today’s post isn’t about my patches and my store. Today’s post is about MantidSnip and their patches. These guys are from Norwich in the United Kingdom and this is going to be my second bulk order from these guys. I could be wrong, but from what I understand this little print press operation is Chris and his girlfriend doing DIY printing press work out of their home. If that is the case, then the quality of not only what they put out, but of the designs on their store are phenomenal. They have a few trippy geometric screen print designs on their shop that are pretty wild. And if you have questions, shoot them a message… because, talking to them is the best part. The one thing I really love about their store is that they are real people. So many Etsy stores today are just about pushing out their merch and that is the end of it. You shoot a store a message and never hear back from them. Chris is not like that at all. He is super personable and isn’t afraid to tell you how it is while being polite and honest. Simply put, Chris and the crew over at MantidSnip are genuine. Seems like there is starting to be less and less of that on Etsy these days and it was refreshing to come across these guys. With that said, go take a look at their stuff… and obviously, as I did, ask them about their custom orders. The back patch they did for me turned out awesome.
Well, it has been a long time coming but I finally did a total overhaul on the store with an all new look. I like it a lot more. It is clean, simple, and showcased the items I have for sale in a more realistic format rather than the old analog look I used to have. Very happy with this change. With that said, got some new… better discounts posted, too! Go take a look.
A lot of new things are going on in patch making land with For the Win Inc. I have spent the last 4 months designing and releasing embroidery patches on my Etsy store. They have been well received to say the least. With that, I decided to go in a new direction, not because I thought it would sell, but because I personally like this style of patchwork. I just released 4 new patch designs on the store this week. But this time they aren’t embroidery patches. No, instead they are screen printed designs on black fabric. These are the types of patches most commonly associated with back patches, vests, jackets, and pant legs. This style of screen print patches are usually seen being worn by individuals in the punk, crust punk, grungecore, doom metal, and deathcore scene. Neo-thrash abounds with these punk inspired patches. And since the types of people that wear this style of patch are of the opinionated variety, I have a few more designs in the works that display some of my more political and economical stances on the modern times we live in today. I don’t honestly know that these will sell as well as the embroidery patches, but I am honestly okay with that. After all, I didn’t release these designs to make money. I released them to have fun while making them for myself. That’s right… these patches are going on my vest!
With that mentioned, my vest is getting a total overhaul. I got a new back patch made up to replace my current one. It’s pretty brutal and I am excited to get it, along with these 4 new patch designs sewn onto my vest. Luckily Sarah knows how to use a sewing machine. Hopefully she won’t roll her eyes too many times while fighting her way through the pile of new patches I have getting put together on my vest. I am excited to get them put on it for sure! This new one “Read the Bible… the End is Nigh”, speaks true to how I feel about our existence as not only a nation, but as a world. And since I was getting so many compliments on my existing back patch, I got a bright idea. If that many people were actually reading my back patch, why not make it of something relevant to my personal views and convictions? After all, they were the ones that chose to read it, right…
Well, I have no idea why I didn’t think of this sooner, but here we are. For those of you that don’t know, I am a singer-songwriter and had the privilege of touring nationally for several years full time. It was an amazing experience that I will always cherish. It was in fact how Sarah and I met. Anyway, it has been quite some time since my last full length release back in 2011 and with my music essentially just collecting dust, I had an idea. I could give away my CD when people buy patches in my store on Etsy. It just seemed like a logical idea considering that I have roughly 5 orders a day go through my store. With that, I ordered some download codes from CDBaby to toss in as a freebee for the For the Win inc customers. Hopefully it is well received. I guess I will never know.
Since Christmas is literally less than 4 weeks away I thought I would do a little holiday sale for you guys. Now until Saturday the 17th of this month everything in my store is on sale for 30% OFF! Get that mess before it’s too late. Won’t be doing another sale like it for a while after this one.
For those of you that keep up with my blog, you already know that I am in the process of doing some punk rock style screen printed patches to add to the store. Well, after much searching I came across a company called MantidSnip from the United Kingdom that does some epic work. Their shirt designs are both complex and large, which I fell in love with. With that, I had to reach out to them… and to my surprise, not only were their deigns fantastic, but so were their prices. It is for that reason that I have decided to partner with them on my screen printed patch venture. And the process has already begun! So far things are looking great and I can’t wait to have these posted up on the store. If you haven’t checked out MantidSnip before, then please do. Not only are they genuine people, but they design, create, and sell some very fantastic products.
Well, here we are in the middle of my fourth month of patch selling operation and things are growing and changing like wild flowers in spring. For starters, I have reached 500 and exceeded 500 sales. It couldn’t have happened at a better time either, considering I am only half way through my 4th month as an Etsy merchant. A few sales before hitting the big 500 I did the math and realized something. If I managed to reach 500 sales this week it would meant something pretty cool. And since I did reach that mark in said time, it happened. With 500 sales under my belt and the calculations done, I have officially sold an average of 5 orders every day since the shop opened. That is 5 orders a day, every day, every single day of the month, 3 & 1/2 months straight. That’s radical if you ask me. Since most sales have been multi packs or even orders up to and exceeding 100 patches, there is no telling how many actual patches I have sold. It has for sure been a while ride.
With that ride in mind I have decided to go a new direction. My wife may think it silly, but I am a big fan of the neo thrash / crust punk style and have even started leaning that direction with my own personal choices in dress (crust excluded). Having said that, the first of December I will be adding a few new items to the store. I have decided to do a run of Christian themed screen printed fabric patches inspired by the for mentioned punk rock look. The large patch on the right with all of its intricate detail is actually not going on the store. That is a one of that I am having made all for myself. That bad boy is a back patch just for me.
Obviously, my focus with all of the patches I have done in the past has been to create something I would want to personally own on my clothing or backpack. With that in mind, these screen printed patches are no different. I plan on putting one of each of these puppies on my vest along with that back patch.
If by chance these neo thrash – crust punk patches do well in the store I may very well be on my way to getting a screen printer set up in my garage. I already have a friend who knows a lot about it who is willing to help me get set up and started, if I so choose.
Anyway, enough rambling.
500 Sales!!!! New Patches Coming!!!!
